Artisan Meat Share Brings Award-Winning Meats and Gourmet Sandwiches to Residents of Charleston and Beyond

By Elisha Neubauer

Started as a CSA-like concept, Artisan Meat Share was founded in 2009 to give customers easy access to award-winning meats from the one and only Chef Craig Deihl. Impressed by the outcome of such a program, the company quickly realized that the only next logical step was a brick and mortar.

Deihl got his start in the culinary world by watching his mother toiling away in the kitchen during his childhood. Her artistic skills in the kitchen were only rivaled by the love and loyalty that she put into each meal, rubbing her adoration of the practice off onto her son. Deihl dove right into his culinary career, winning many awards along the way.

In 2010 he was selected as Chef of the Year by the Charleston chapter of the American Culinary Foundation, he was a semi-finalist for the prestigious James Beard Foundation award for Best Chef Southeast in 2010 and 2013 while being nominated for the very same award in 2011 and 2012 as well.

The CSA-like style program operated from 2009-2013 and offered participants a chance to receive local charcuterie. Not to be a one-sided relationship, the customer-friendly program was also extremely beneficial to the local farmers. The program gave a boost to the local farming economy, offering support to the local industry from the increasing popularity and demand of such a product.

After a great four year run, Deihl launched a physical location on Spring Street. Instead of having to wait for a delivery package, lovers of Deihl's creations could now enjoy his award-winning samples on a daily basis. Today, Artisan Meat Share has a wide selection of options on their menu, giving guests an even bigger treat than the original program.

Meat plates, including cured meats; salads, such as the Thai Beef Salad and Antipasta; and sandwiches, such as the Hot Fried Chicken and Biscuit and the Shaved Pork Sandwich, are available in their dine-in location.

For those looking for a quick picker-upper, Boxed Lunches are offered by the company, so that guests can take the joy of Artisan Meat Share back to the office with them. A wider selection of To-go options are also ready for easy to go meals.

To make things even easier, Artisan Meat Share allows guests to order online every day of the week with thirty minutes advanced notice.
