Carolina Safari Jeep Tour: Take a Ride Through South Carolina's Wild History

By Christian Burney

Carolina Safari Jeep Tours took off approximately 20 years ago. According to Wayne Brown, Owner of the touring service, its model was based off that of "Pink Jeep Tours" in Sedona, Arizona.

"Carolina Safari Jeep Tours provides an 'off-the-beaten-path' journey through areas that most locals and tourists may have heard about, but rarely have traveled through and perhaps have not had the opportunity to hear and learn of the unique history of this unparalleled region of the country," says Brown.

Historians and naturalists who graduated from Harvard University designed its itinerary and lectures. "The Jeep Tour," Brown says, "allows passengers to travel through the low country of South Carolina, enjoying the beauty and culture of this fascinating area in what some guests have described as an 'unforgettable experience.'"

According to Brown, many tourists consider the Carolina Safari Jeep Tours to be a highlight of their trip to Myrtle Beach. "It truly is a tour where history and nature meet! The word 'safari' means 'traveling over land viewing nature.'" Though there aren't any lions, tigers, or bears to bewilder tourists, there are plenty of chances to glimpse a 'gator. "The passengers are usually thrilled to see alligators 'up close and personal' in the fresh waters," Brown says. "It is also usually possible to discover rare species of birds galore."

The opportunity to see dual ecosystems, rice fields and plantations is just the tip of the iceberg. Tourists have the chance to explore Gullah history and folklore, hear ghoulish ghost stories and explore olden graveyards. "Tree-lined avenues with beautiful Spanish moss, coves where pirates roamed, and the oldest resort in America- it will provide memories to last a lifetime!" says Brown.

The tours aren't confined to riding in jeeps, of course. Passengers will have plenty of chances to unload and explore the wilderness on foot, though they are not required to do so. Tours can be booked for individuals, small groups or larger private parties. Whether you're a student looking to observe South Carolinian nature in action, or just a tourist along for the ride, Carolina Safari Jeep Tours is happy to help.
