Finding the Right Mover For You: An Interview with Michael Ruguleiski of The Mobile Attic

By Michael Ruguleiski

Please describe a little bit about your company and the services you offer.

Mobile Attic is a portable storage company committed to being the most convenient way to move and store. We drop off a portable storage unit to your home or business. Whether you're a DIY'er or prefer to hire professionals, you can load the storage unit at your convenience on your schedule. The storage unit can remain on your property, be stored at our secure facility, or moved to your next destination. The best thing about portable storage is that you only load and unload your belongings one time.

Where is the best place to look for recommendations?

I recommend my clients ask friends, family, coworkers, and Real Estate agents for referrals. When you work with a moving company, you want firsthand knowledge of how they conduct business. I then recommend taking to the internet in search of reviews and social media mentions. Are they on twitter or Facebook? What is their community saying about them? Does google, yelp, angies list, kudzu, and city search have any reviews / ratings for the company that you're considering?

No moving company is perfect. If you find a negative review or comment, don't discount the moving company right away. Look to see if the moving company responded and how they resolved it. It's more important to know you are working with people that make their mistakes right than to assume nothing will wrong.

Can I trust an estimate that wasn't done in person?

No way! If you are wanting a true estimate with a "not to exceed" figure, don't go with someone that doesn't take the time to come look at your house.

What are some clear signs that perhaps a moving company isn't reliable?

A moving company should be licensed, bonded, insured, have DOT and MC numbers, able to provide you with references, be prompt and professional with all communication, and have been in business for a decent amount of time. If a company falters on any of these steps, it's safe to move on to the next mover on your list.

How important is it that my moving company is licensed and insured? How do I make sure of this?

This is extremely important. Ask for copies of these documents as well as DOT and MC numbers.
