From Wedding Bliss to Top-Shelf Photos, Sposa Bella Photography Does It All

By Elisha Neubauer

There is no greater love story than that of a couple who, after a decade of marriage, still behave as newlyweds. For Craig and Lindsey Mahaffey, their love story is still unfolding in every artistic shot they capture.

The Mahaffeys are one of those couples you envy. They're joyous, they're blissful, and most importantly, they're undeniably in love. Although they have been married for over 11 years, they still treat each and every day as if it's their first, and this respect for love shows through in their stunning wedding photography.

Craig Mahaffey grew up in the photography world. His mother owned a professional photography lab, allowing him easy and open access to film and developing services. Despite the interest he held in the art, he pursued a career as a high school teacher, keeping photography as a hobby. However, after three years, Mahaffey felt pulled to photography and left behind his teaching to follow his passion.

This was in 2002, the same year Mahaffey met and began dating Lindsey. Her passion for the art form rivaled his, and their joint passion bloomed into something much more. In 2003, the pair founded a business together, Sposa Bella Photography. While the pair began shooting everything from children and families to commercial real estate, they found an unparalleled attraction to photography weddings together.

"Photographing a wedding together, on the happiest day of our clients lives, can feel like a renewal of our own vows and our love," Lindsey Mahaffey said.

The pair realized that shooting weddings was not only a strength for them professionally, but also for their personal lives. In 2007, they began to specialize in weddings and by 2008 it was all they were doing.

"Honestly, there is something about working with newly engaged and newly married couples that keeps us feeling like newlyweds, even after 11 years of marriage," Lindsey Mahaffey said. "And although we are both principal photographers, with the ability to photograph weddings individually/on our own, we each have our own strengths and weaknesses and are better photographers together than we are apart."

Due to the special relationship the Mahaffeys share, they are able to give something to their clients that other photographers can't: understanding. They understand just how important wedding photographs are to a happy marriage, and they know that, aside from choosing each other, choosing a wedding photographer is one of the most important parts of planning a wedding. Photographs live on long after the wedding day is over.

"We know how important our photographs are to us, and we approach every wedding day with that sense of responsibility," Lindsey Mahaffey said. "We put 110% of ourselves into work, and we believe it shows."

The Mahaffeys go out of their way to ensure their clients enjoy their wedding day as seamlessly as possible. While they focus on their clients, they also believe that every guest and family member should have the same experience. Their customer service does not stop with the bride and groom, nor does it start on the day of the wedding, but rather long before.

"We are highly organized, with a game plan, detailed list of family photos, and all the day's events, so that we are properly prepared and don't miss a thing," Lindsey Mahaffey said. "It is important to us to have a wonderful experience in all aspects of the process from booking through the final album design."
