When should I start packing for my move? Do I need to have everything packed before the movers show up?

You should start packing at least one week out from your move. This allows you to make any necessary changes that might arise as your move date gets closer. Of course it is always better to have everything packed before the movers show up. This will allow for a smoother, quicker move. If there are things you didn't have time to pack, don't worry. Our professional team of movers will be able to pack them for you.

Should I take an inventory of all my belongings so I make sure everything arrives at my new home?

Yes! It is extremely important that you take a full inventory of everything that is going with you in the move. Not only does it help you keep track of what should be at your new home, it gives our team of movers a better idea of what to expect come move day.

Is there anything I should make sure is set up in my new home before I make the move?

As long as the power is on, there is nothing that needs to be set up before the move. It is always best for rooms to be as organized as possible so the movers have a clear path around the house. One of the benefits of using professional movers is that they can set up furniture for you.

How do I make sure there is a parking space available for the truck at my old and new home?

Obviously, if you have a driveway, you are good to go. If only street parking is available, we recommend that you block off an area for the truck. This can be done simply with the use of orange cones. Place two cones along the curb. Spacing of the cones should be enough to fit the truck, while leaving some extra space for the movers to get items in and out of the back.

When should I turn off the electricity in my old home?

You should give your local electric company a call the week of your move. Let them know the date of your move and schedule the power to be shut off the following day. Nothing is worse than carrying a king size mattress down a flight stairs when the lights go out!

Should I provide helpers for the movers?

Helpers are not necessary. You are the quarterback of the move team. You let them know where things are going. Other than that, it is always best to stay out of the way and let them do their job. They are professionals.

What are some other things I can do to make sure my move runs as smoothly as possible?

In order to make your move run as smoothly as possible, a few things can be done. Try and have everything packed before the movers get there. Less time spent packing for the movers, means less time moving your items. Try and have your furniture tops cleared off and grant the movers easy access to the front door; the easier the path, the quicker the move. And finally, sit back and relax. Our movers are there to take the stress out of your move.
